This is the dish that inspired the blog. My friend and I were sitting at NoPa's bar one Thursday night, picking our way through small plates and wine, when we the ordered a side of Brocoili with Eggs. My companion was a bit hesitent, but what ensued left us both giddy over what used to be the realm of grandmothers (eggs, of course). I've made this dish with a couple of variations (below) but the original copycat is still my favorite.

NoPa Style Broccoli and Eggs
Ingredients:
4 eggs
2 heads of broccoli
3 tbls. Olive oil
¼ c. water
3 tbls. Dijon mustard
2 lemons
1 tbls. Capers
1 tsp. cumin
Directions:
4 hard boiled eggs
Place the eggs in a saucepan and cover with water. Bring to a boil, cover and let sit for 15 minutes.
2 broccoli heads
Cut into florets, discard stems
2 tbls. Olive oil
Add olive oil to pan and heat over medium high heat. Add broccoli and sear, stirring occasionally to sear most sides of the broccoli, about 10 minutes. (NoPa does this over a wood grill.)
Meanwhile, remove the shells from the eggs and dice.
Combine in a large bowl:
3 tbls. Mustard
1 whole lemon, juiced
1 tbls. Capers
1 tbls. Olive oil
eggs
Remove broccoli from heat and season with salt, cumin. Squeeze remaining lemon juice on top of broccoli.
Mix broccoli and egg mixture.
Serve warm.
Variations: Substitue lemon juice and capers for cardamon, cinamon and curry powder. Turns the dish from greek to turkish in one deliscious swoop!
